LET IT FALL I guess we just weren't old enough to understand or brave enough to see it didn't matter what they'd say so we couldn't talk about the feelings we just let them fall away we let them fall one day the things I don't remember come back to haunt me and your face in the perfect light of dreaming shakes my sleep but I don't know where you are or who you are today I can't make that leap that well's too deep you went off to see the world in a wanderlusting thrall while I tried to make a home in a room too dark and small not admitting what we wanted we couldn't see beyond that wall so let it fall away let it fall, I say when you build a bridge to the past you can't refine or shape the way you feel and you can't escape cuz the face is real staring at you in the dark at night turn on the light just turn on the light that's all and let it fall so I trace back through the years and I watch the pain fade and all the "should'ves, if I'd only" thoughts don't seem to count for much but I still can't catch or hold the meaning like everything we touch becomes a sentimental crutch but then I see you in my dreams and you won't answer when I call and I try to follow you down a dark and silent hall but I don't know how you see it now or what you might recall so let it fall away let it fall, I say when you build a bridge to the past you can't refine or shape the way you feel and you can't escape cuz the face is real staring at you in the dark at night turn on the light just turn on the light that's all and let it fallwords © 2000 Richard Isen
